This section lists all known bars, restaurants and clubs with in the area known as The Village. Majority of the venues are either in Canal Street, Richmond Street, Bloom Street and Sackville Street. Please be aware, the venues listed are in alphabetical order rather than indicating which are the popular venues as it is subjective to each individual person who visits the various venues and the area in general.
Indian Restaurant located next to the NCP Car Park and adjacent to Napoleans. The resturant provides guests with an incredible dining experience whilst enjoying the taste of truly Indian cuisine. They offer traditional Indian recipes, as well as some new and innovative dishes.
You cannot miss Bar Pop as it is in the centre of Canal St, normally illuminated by colour lights outside along with a greeting from trans friendly glamorised girls. It has a long bar on the ground floor with a large lounge area and a dance floor.
A warm cosy friendly ground floor club with a single bar served by friendly staff. Has a small dance floor with nightly entertainment provided by resident DJ’s with emphasis on music from the 70’s upto the present day.
This venue is one of the popular venues daytime or evening which attracts all discerning people looking for a relaxing venue for drink, chat and food.It has a vintage wooden feel about the venue which creates its own atmosphere. Serves food with speciality being Spanish and South American Tapa’s with an excellent range of ales, wines, spirits and cocktails.
Napoleans is Manchester’s oldest gay venue and tends to be one of those venues you must go too when you visit the Village. Affectionally gets called “Naps” for convenience. Opens six nights a week and tends to open from approx 10.30pm
The “New Union” is located on the corner of Canal Street and Princess Street being divided between being a hotel and also a public bar too. The actual building was built in the mid 1800’s were the Bar is located and consequently has more of a pub atmosphere which includes pool tables and fruit machines.
This is currently the resident meeting venue for Manchester 2nd Friday starting at 20.00hrs and kindly hosted by Mr Tony Cooper.
On Bar comprises of 3 floors:
- Ground floor: General bar area with DJ and dance floor
- 2nd floor: General bar area and outdoor balcony; more of a comfort area with some couches and knee-height tables
- 3rd floor: Bar area with stage where performances by resident Drag Artist takes place; cocktail tables and bar-stools.
This venue is an intimate, theatre style basement bar, showing classic and modern musical film clips, in lovely surroundings. Offers a warm welcome from friendly staff, together with many favourite film show tunes and clips creating an excellent atmosphere. Certainly no shortage of making conversation in this bar or likewise sing along to the songs instead.
The “Richmond Tea Rooms” is a unique establishment within the Village. The inside of the venue is based on “English Gardens” theme were you are served “afternoon tea” with what that all entails. In otherwords, it has an excellent menu based on a variety of sandwiches, a good selection of cakes, a choice of different teas and coffee’s and also a breakfast menu too.
Formally known as “Paddy’s Goose” when in late 2014, the venue had a revamp and subsequently was renamed to “The Goose”. Sometimes known as “Paddy’s” or simply the “Goose” and is a traditional pub in the heart of the Village, open from midday or until midnight.
“Velvet” is a multi purpose venue incorporating a bar, restaurant and a hotel. Certainly one of the “popular” venues in Canal Street.
Via is in the heart of Canal Street and definitely one of the venues you must visit. It has an old world quirky charm with many nooks and crannnies to sit and socialise during the day along with having the opportunity to dance too with the resident DJ’s in the evening providing the entertainment.
